As frontline leaders at the worksite, SEIU stewards wear many hats. They are problem solvers, educators, and communicators. And, most importantly, they are organizers.
We will be updating this page with a number of resources to help stewards better represent their co-workers on the job. Check out some of the most important documents for worksite leaders.

Steward Trainings
Steward trainings are available to all union members. All trainings are being held virtually at this time. To see our current schedule of trainings and register, please fill out the form below. You can also sign up by calling our Member Action Resource Center at 1-800-632-8079.
Note that any given training may be cancelled if we don’t have a sufficient number of participants signed up a week in advance. Should that happen, we will notify you.
Introduction to Stewarding 101
This training will cover the roles and responsibilities of a union steward, representation rights, basic grievance skills and an overview of requesting information to investigate contract violations. The Introduction to Stewarding 101 is a basic requirement for union leaders to be able to effectively represent their members in the workplace.
Introduction to Union Leadership 101
This training is specifically for Family Child Care (FCC) sector leaders, but union stewards from other sectors are welcome to attend if they are interested in learning more about how FCC works. This training will cover the roles and responsibilities of being a union leader, how child care funding works and the importance of the role of local and federal politics in how child care is funded and how much providers are paid.
Intro to the Organizing Conversation
Have you ever been frustrated by a coworker’s refusal to come to a rally or take action? Are you tired of hearing “that won’t make a difference” or watching people you know care deeply about their work stay silent when it matters most?
Inspired by the organizing methodology of Jane McAlevey, this training introduces union members to one of the most powerful tools in the labor movement: the structured organizing conversation. More than just a script, it’s a disciplined approach to deep listening that moves past small talk to uncover what your coworkers truly care about, what makes them angry, and what would make them act.
You’ll learn how to open a door, ask the questions that matter, listen with purpose, and connect what your coworker cares about to the collective action you’re building together. You’ll practice turning apathy and buried anger into agency and action.
By the end, you’ll have the skills and confidence to have real conversations that move coworkers from disengaged to fired up, to all in.
